Day 50: Seeking God in the Summer
Read Acts 2: 42-47
What’s one of the best parts of being a student at Northwest University? Many would say our community life. But, what happens when the school year ends, and we leave for home, or wherever else for the summer? Does community end as well? The answer is no, our prioritization of God and his people should not end as we part ways for the summer.
This passage describes the early Church, and the type of fellowship they had among themselves. Their primary focus was on God. They devoted themselves to Him, but they also devoted themselves to each other. They broke bread together, they prayed together, they gave what they had when someone was in need, and guess what? Others noticed, and wanted in on their way of life. Let us strive to build this type of community, one that is so distinct in the best way possible, that others see it, want in and want to know who this God is that these people believe in.
Trust me, it can be easy to place God on the back-burner during the summer. Some of you may be from a Christian home, but Church falls second to a fun weekend away. Some of you may be traveling the world, and forget to prioritize your relationship with God, and some of you may be returning to a household where you are the only Christian. There are many excuses we can rationalize, but God’s love for us and intent for us to live in community isn’t seasonal. Community doesn’t end in the summer, and neither should our intent to build it and participate in it.
Question:
How can I actively seek community this summer, and what are practical ways I can prioritize my personal relationship with the Lord?
Prayer:
God I thank you for the ways you have worked through this school year, and I thank you for a community like Northwest. I pray that you embolden me to seek you first this summer, and that you remind me that your love endures all circumstances.
