Read This Overview
This week we are talking about PRACTICING. Our goal is to practice the Way of Jesus.
If we desire the outcomes of Jesus, we have to look at the lifestyle of Jesus. Yes, Jesus was fully God, but he was also fully human. Jesus shows us what it means to be human. To be a person who is not anxious, who is not fearful, who is not hurried, who is full of peace, love, generosity, kindness, and the fruits of the Spirit. Jesus did not just live this way because he was God, his lifestyle shaped him.
The Christian life is not one of striving and trying. In Christ you have been given new life. Romans 3 says, "For there is no distinction: for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, AND are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith." The Christian life is one of training and practicing. We begin to step into the life Jesus is inviting each one of us to have. Jesus says, "Come to me" (Matthew 11:28).
Scripture To Read
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
Talk Together (10-20 minutes)
In your groups of 3-4 and ask the following questions.
Tell me about a few spiritual disciplines, rhythms, or practices that are/would be helpful tools/habits for you in this season?
How do these rhythms and spiritual practices help heal your unhealthy habits/baggage and fight lies?
Who will I bring around me to help me practice these spiritual disciplines and rhythms?
As a Group
Life Group leader, we trust and empower you to lead this time. Be creative. Be intentional.
This Week’s Practice
Pray about a spiritual discipline to practice this week and in this season.
In of light who you want to be(come), spending last week partnering with the Holy Spirit to recognize an area(s) where God wants to do a deep and beautiful work in you, and bringing in one or a few trusted friends to grow with in this season, this week pray about a rhythm or practice that will help form you into the person you and God long for you to be.
Remember, you are deeply loved right now for who you. God does not only love the future you. He loves you holistically. But, He is inviting the present you to adopt the lifestyle of Jesus.
