What is Spiritual Life Credit?

Students are expected to engage in the spiritual life of the community. Programs and events that inform and engage spiritual life count towards what we call Spiritual Life credit. Spiritual Life credit opportunities are organized in such a way as to encourage students to own the different components of their spiritual formation.

Students are expected to engage in a total of 35 programs, gatherings, groups, or events for Spiritual Life credit throughout the semester (equal to participating in about 3 Spiritual Life credit opportunities per week). Part of our alignment as an Assemblies of God University requires that we have a form of credit for chapel or spiritual life. The number of required credits (35) is equal to three chapels a week, but can be attained in a variety of approved ways.

Please use the links below to learn about the general Spiritual Life Credit Policy and Strategy.

What Are Some Reasons I Could Apply For A Further Spiritual Life Credit Reduction?

Students with certain situations may qualify for a further reduction in Spiritual Life credits. Students who qualify will need to fill out a Spiritual Life Credit Adjustment Request Form, available on the Campus Ministries Eagle page. Forms must be turned in by the 2nd Friday of the semester. Accepted circumstances for a SL credit reduction include:

  • Being a part-time student taking 7-11 credits, the credit requirement will be reduced to 15 SL credits.

  • Students taking 10 or fewer credits have no Spiritual Life credit requirement and do not need to fill out a Spiritual Life Credit Adjustment Request Form.

  • Being enrolled in a major-required clinical/internship during chapel hours every M/W/F (will need to provide course number, hours/days of internship/clinical, and a signature from the Academic Success & Advising Center). Approved students will have their SL credit requirement lowered to 15.

  • Being a senior who must enroll in courses that conflict with both chapel hours on M/W/F (will need to provide both course titles/numbers and a signature from the Academic Success & Advising Center). Approved students will have their SL credit requirement lowered to 15.

  • Living off-campus and not having any classes before 1:30 pm on M/W/F.

  • Being a parent who must be with your child(ren) during chapel hours.

  • Being involved in military service that requires you to be absent from school for a significant period.

Again, all adjustment requests must be turned in using the SL Credit Adjustment Request Form, available on the Campus Ministries Eagle page, by the first Friday of the semester.
